With so many different cyber threats, it is not new that in recent years the numbers of virtual attacks on companies have increased, being the ransomware attack, which took place on May 12, 2017 , one of the largest already occurred.
However, it is clear that most companies are not creating privacy policies, or increasing the security in internet use to avoid such attack or invasion.
This is what a survey conducted by Control Risks , a global consulting firm specializing in political, safety and integrity risk management.
The survey was made based on data from 482 business executives, and according to research:
- 77% of respondents believe that the company's board primarily responsible for the cyber security management of organizations.
- 46% of respondents believe that the high level of executives from their companies do not give due importance to the theme “cyber security”.
- 31% of organizations are very or extremely worried that will suffer a cyber attack next year.
In order to understand how organizations relate to security and cyber threats, the research questioned the internal structure of companies and their conditions to resolve crises, threats and virtual crimes, see the data collected:
- 45% say that evaluating and managing cyber risks is their biggest challenges regarding cyber safety.
- 32% said that the companies in which they operate did not perform last year an assessment of the risks offered by cyber threats to their business.
- Around 28% of companies that suffered a cyber attack , faced regulatory or police actions and 26% lost customers.
The survey also points out that 35% of respondents admit that their company has already suffered from a cyber security breach.
Another fact that draws attention in the study is that 53% of organizations evaluate the cyber security measures of partners and providers only through contractual clauses.
The report points out that cyber attacks increased by 11% in the last year in America, and Latin America, in particular, still appears as a critical target of virtual threats, according to the survey. In Mexico alone, the attacks increased 30% .
For the research, executives were heard in the Americas, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa in early 2017 and gave rise to the Cyber Security Landscape 2017 report.
With this, it can be seen that this theme should be more approached in the daily lives of companies in general, seeking to find strategies and solutions that can help increased internet security of companies, avoiding attacks that may bring huge damage.
