Employees waste about two hours/day at work, shows research

Currently, the concern of entrepreneurs and managers goes far beyond financial control and sales, to stay competitive and the front of the competition, the most relevant points for companies have become efficiency, productivity and delivery of team results.

In this scenario, one of the main problems of team managers is the excessive drop in efficiency and productivity! And this concern seems justified if we take as a study based on the US portal, salary.com , involving more than 10,000 employees in the United States. See some outstanding points of the research:

More time than you might

Faced with the reality of today's world, when it takes most of the time at work, devoting part of the day to personal activities is common and not surprising even employers, who estimated that their employees occupy 1 hour/day in work -related activities.

Human resources managers, perhaps because they are closer to employees, are more pessimistic, estimating employees spend 90 minutes/day on average on personal activities. The problem is that the wasted time is double what entrepreneurs imagine. According to the survey, on an eight -hour workday, employees spend an average of 2 hours/day on personal activities, without considering lunch hours and intervals.

Internet is bigger villain!

The inefficient use of time by employees during working time costs US equivalent to US $ 759 billion per year. Therefore, it becomes a need for companies to adopt measures to reduce this idleness, especially in relation to the misuse of the internet.

As we can imagine, the internet is the biggest cause of the waste of employees, as it was the activity indicated by 44.7% of respondents. The personal use of the web would cost, something like $ 330 billion a year for companies.

Other factors also contribute to the waste of time during work. The second most cited activity as the one that consumes the most time during work is socialization with other co -workers, which was cited by 23.4% of respondents. Then we have: conduct of finance and personal business (6.8%), search for another job (1.3%) and the planning of personal activities (1%).

Young people waste more time

When asked why the time wasted during work, 33.2%, most, say they were idle. Just under a quarter of the interviewees (23.4%) claimed that he earns little to the activities performed, 14.7% claimed that they are distracted by other colleagues and 12% said they have no time to resolve personal issues.

An interesting fact is that age seems to influence the wasted time. According to the survey, employees over 50 lose only 30 minutes per day of work; while those who are 35 to 50 years old spend 72 minutes/day; who is aged 25 to 35 years spend 96 minutes/day; and those with employees with less than 25 years 2 hours/day on average.

Since the internet is the biggest villain in terms of waste of time, nothing more natural than older employees, and less used to their use, are the least time lost during the day with personal activities.
