Average ransom paid by companies has increased almost fivefold

The average ransom paid by organizations whose data was encrypted increased nearly fivefold last year, to $812,360, according to a survey commissioned by Sophos and Vanson Bourne, titled "State of Ransomware 2022." The survey also found that two-thirds (66%) of organizations worldwide were hit by a ransomware attack in 2021, a 37% increase compared to 2020.
